Symbols & abbreviations

When you are listening and taking notes, speed is very important. Using symbols and abbreviations can help you write faster.

Here’s list of frequently used symbols and abbreviations with their meanings so that you can refer to them in the future.

Tip 1

You can develop you own personal list of abbreviations and/or symbols BUT they must be consistent so that you can remember what they mean!

Tip 2

Some abbreviations are so well known and widely used that they have become acronyms.

For example:

NASA: National Aeronautics and Space Administration

UFO: Unidentified Flying Object

ASAP: As Soon As Possible

ATM: Automated Teller Machine

ABC: Australian Broadcasting Corporation

AEAS: Australian Education Assessment Services
