An essay consists of THREE parts.
This course is about how to write a CONCLUSION.
Before writing a conclusion, we must understand how we write the introduction.
Let's look at an example of how we do that:
Topic: Should the school day start later and finish later? Why?
INTRODUCTION
The school day in Australia and in many countries starts at about 8:30 am and finishes at about 3:30 pm. I strongly believe that the school day should start later and finish later for two reasons. Firstly, teenagers find it easier to concentrate later in the morning. Secondly, students would miss fewer days of school.
What are the three parts of this introduction?
1. General statement
The first sentence of this introduction gives the reader some general information about the subject.
2. Thesis
This sentence is the most important sentence in your essay. Your Thesis is your opinion or argument.

CONCLUSION
To conclude, it is easier for students to stay focused later in the morning than earlier. They will also feel rested and ready for class if they have had enough sleep so they will not be absent from school. That’s why I believe that the school day should start later and finish later. Let’s all ask for this change that will improve student life.
What are the three parts of the conclusion?
1. Summary of the points
The first sentence of the conclusion gives the reader a summary of the points.
2. Thesis reiteration (Repeat)
This sentence rephrases (repeats) the thesis you stated in your introduction. Your Thesis is your opinion or argument.
3. Final statement
This is the last sentence in your conclusion and the closing sentence of your whole essay. It can be a call for some sort of action, a sentence that connects back to the introduction or a final comment.

Tips
- Â Use the introduction as a guide for your conclusion
- A conclusion should be about 4-5 sentences long and about 50 – 75 words
- No new points in the conclusion
